IBM Hursley Retirees Club - July

July 2018 Events:

July 2nd (Monday) - Afternoon visit to the Hambledon Vineyard with tour, tasting and cream tea.

Depart Hursley - 1:00pm.

Depart Hambledon Vineyard - 5:00pm (approx.)

“Limited numbers” trip - One coach - First come, first served!.

The visit starts with a vineyard tour which includes the history of vineyard, tour of the vines and explanation of what is currently happening, followed by a visit to cellar with information about how English Sparkling wine is made.  After the tour there is a tasting involving two Hambledon sparkling wines followed by a cream tea consisting of scones with cream served with a glass of Hambledon Classic Cuvée Rosé or tea/coffee. 

We expect to arrive at the vineyard at approx. 2.00pm.  From the coach drop-off point there is slight inclined 50m walk from entrance gates.  The tour starts in the tasting room where everyone can be seated (20 mins talking time).  Then we walk down six large-ish, wide steps to the viewing point of the vineyard, and another 15 small steps down to the vineyard area to look at the vines (10 outside chairs can be available here for people to sit on).  There is then a 80m walk to the cellar (chairs can be available here also).  The walk to the winery has a slight incline and two flights of spiral staircases, each stair case having 15 steps.  We return back down to the 1st floor and then to the ground floor.  Finally, there is a 5m walk to old winery and a further 5m to tasting room (one small step-up).

July 10th (Tuesday) - Visit to Highclere Castle with Coffee/Lunch stop/Free time in Newbury.

Depart Hursley - 9:30am.

Depart Highclere - 5:00pm (approx.)

July 22nd (Sunday) - Theatre visit to London for Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution at the London County Hall.

Depart Hursley - 10:00am.

Depart London - 6:00pm (approx.)

Theatre tickets will be handed out as you board the coach in Hursley.  We expect to arrive in London by around 12.00 noon and the coach drop-off will be within the South Bank area. There will be plenty of time to have lunch in London and maybe do some shopping before the show which starts at 3.00pm  The theatre entrance is on Belvedere Road (SE1 7PB).  Please note that the theatre suggests that you arrive 45 minutes prior to the start of the performance to allow time for venue staff to verify tickets and conduct bag searches and warn that latecomers will be not be admitted!  The show lasts 2 hours and 15 mins, including a 20 minute interval. 

The pick-up point will be determined by the coach driver and advised prior to leaving the coach.  Departure time from London will be approx. 6.00pm getting you back at Hursley by 8.00pm, traffic permitting.  There is limited waiting time for the coach at the pick-up point so please try to get there a few minutes early and prepare yourselves for the two hour return journey in good time!
