January 2024 Events:
Zoom Talks
Recognising that the January to March period is sometimes pretty miserable,
with the coldness and bad weather, the committee have arranged a couple of Zoom talks.
You will note that these Zoom talks do not have a fixed ticket price but ask you for a donation.
Unfortunately, now that IBM no longer supports the club, we are not in a position to offer these relatively low cost events free of charge.
When you order your ticket through Eventbrite you will see the word Donation.
Click on buy tickets and enter the amount to donate. We suggest £4.
You only need 1 ticket, as this covers all members of your household who will be watching the Zoom.
Asking for a donation reduces the fees Eventbrite charges.
16th January (Tuesday)
South Bank and the Festival of Britain
Zoom talk 14:00pm-15:30pm
A Zoom presention by Diane Burstein, the London guide many of you will remember.
This time she is covering the area of South Bank and The Festival of Britain.
We will be taken back to 1951 when the festival took Londoners out of post war austerity to marvel at the latest innovations in art,
design, industry and technology at a festival to celebrate the centenary of the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Find out how this festival was a catalyst for the regeneration of the entire South Bank.
We trace the surviving remnants of the Festival not least the recently restored Royal Festival Hall.
We will also cover the National Theatre and finally the Oxo Tower.
Book on Eventbrite, using the link you
should have recently received from Merv.
